Pharmaceutical Manufacturing produce drugs using organic chemicals through direct chemical synthesis or chemical processes.
These medicinal products include active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), tablets, creams, syrups, etc.
These products have low molecular weight (also known as small molecules) and requires stringent quality controls e.g. current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements.

Biologics Manufacturing

Biologics Manufacturing produce drugs using living organisms through biological processes that involve fermentation and purification.
The living organisms produce proteins and nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) that are used to formulate medicinal products.
These medicinal products include vaccines, therapeutic proteins and materials for cell therapy and gene transfer.
These products have higher molecular weight (also known as large molecules) and requires more stringent quality controls than traditional pharmaceutical manufacturing.

New Modalities

They consist of Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT), fusion proteins and antibody drug conjugate among others.
Cellular therapy products include cellular immunotherapies, cancer vaccines, and other types of both autologous and allogeneic cells for certain therapeutic indications, including hematopoietic stem cells and adult and embryonic stem cells.
Human gene therapy seeks to modify or manipulate the expression of a gene or to alter the biological properties of living cells for therapeutic use.
